☕ Coffee and Quiet with Derek Wolf
Someone was telling me about a guy who writes little comical observations about life, and one of his lines stayed with me:
"I'm working on all my mistakes, and the next one's gonna be a real doozy." I laughed when I heard it because there's something wonderfully human about admitting that no matter how much experience we collect along the way, we're probably not finished adding a few more mistakes to the list.Imagine how boring life would be if we'd already made our last mistake.
For some reason, when we're younger, we think we're eventually going to figure all of this out. We'll get older, become wiser, make better decisions, and finally reach some magical age where we know exactly what we're doing.
I'm beginning to suspect that age doesn't exist.
We still buy things we shouldn't. Say something that sounded much better inside our head. Try to fix something and make it worse. Trust the wrong person. Take a wrong turn. Forget something important.
And every now and then we create something so spectacular that all we can do is stand back, admire our work, and think, Well, that was a good one.
I'm not looking forward to my next mistake, but I'm pretty sure it's coming.
When it does, I'll ride that wave the best I can, poke a little fun at myself, fix whatever I can fix, and keep going.
Imagine how boring life would be if we'd already made our last mistake.
I think I'll finish my coffee before I make another one.
Hugzzs,
