This morning I woke up with "Come Monday" by Jimmy Buffett playing in my mind. Some songs have a way of arriving before your
feet ever touch the floor. They quietly settle into your thoughts while the coffee brews, and before you know it you're remembering different seasons of your life, the people who walked beside you, the dreams you carried, and all those little moments when simply having something to look forward to was enough to make today feel a little lighter.Life is often carried by anticipation.
As children, we looked forward to birthdays, summer vacation, and Christmas morning. As adults, we started looking toward the weekend, retirement, seeing family again, or maybe finally taking that trip we've talked about for years. Somewhere along the way, most of us began carrying around two simple words.
One day.
One day I'll have more time.
One day I'll slow down.
One day I'll sit on the porch a little longer.
One day I'll learn something new.
One day...
Hope doesn't always arrive with a date circled on the calendar. Sometimes it's simply the quiet belief that there's still something good waiting ahead. That little bit of anticipation has carried people through difficult seasons for generations.
Maybe "Come Monday" is just a song. Or maybe it's a reminder that not everything worth looking forward to has a date on the calendar. Sometimes hope simply lives in us.
I think I'll put Jimmy Buffett on one more time.
